Take a moment, learn more about our candles with our frequently asked questions

  • Soy wax is an all natural wax created from soy beans. Our candles are all made with 100% soy wax.

Soy wax is plant based, biodegradable and vegan.

Soy beans are a renewable resource grown here in the USA.

Soy wax has a higher melting temperature which gives my candles a longer burn time meaning my candles will burn longer than paraffin candles!

  • Our premium fragrance oils are blended into the soy wax at that magic temperature when the wax is melted and begins to cool.

All of our fragrance are free from phthalates and additives. We use premium fragrances blended with essential oils.

  • Phthalates are a family of industrial chemicals used to soften polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic and as solvents in cosmetics and other consumer products (like candles). They can damage the liver, kidneys, lungs, and reproductive system so I choose not to use them when I make my candles.

  • Fragrance throw is the term used to describe how well the scent from a candle circulates through a space. My candles are highly fragrant but there are a few other things to consider when picking a candle for your space.

Container size: the wider the diameter, the stronger the fragrance throw will be.

A smaller candle, such as our tins or Discovery Kit candles may be sufficient for an office or bathroom.

A larger living space may require a candle with a wider diameter, such as our double wick aura jars or triple wick concrete bowls to fill the room with fragrance.

  • Lids help prevent the fragrance from evaporating. After burning your candle replace the lid once the candle has cooled.

I recommend when you are not using your candle to store it in a place that is cool, dry and away from heat or direct sunlight.

Candles are designed to melt so keep that in mind when storing your candle!

  • Candles are shipped with wicks trimmed ready to light.

Trimming is an important step for candle safety. Trim your wick after each burn.

    A properly trimmed wick will:

Prevent black soot formation around the rim of the candle container and black smoke from coming off your candle wick while burning.

Prevent the flame from getting too large and makes your candle last longer.

Will produce a better, cleaner burn and a longer lasting candle.

Be approximately 1/4 inch for cotton wicks and 3/16 inch for the wooden wicks.

Be trimmed by an Alaina & Co. wick trimmer… coming soon!

  • Candle burn times will vary based on size. To ensure you get the most out of your candle follow these burning steps:

For your first burn allow the candle’s melt pool to reach the edge of the vessel.

Allow candle’s melt pool to reach the edge of the vessel for each subsequent burn.

Trim your wick after every burn.

All my candles should be burned for no longer than 4 continuous hours. Our Discovery Kits candles max out at 3 hours. This prevents the candle container from overheating.

    Use the Oven

This option is perfect for the candle lover who has several containers to clean at once.

    Pro tips:

    • Make sure to adjust the oven rack to accommodate the tallest container on the tray.

    • Evenly distribute multiple containers across the tray to balance for easy loading and unloading from the oven.

    • Do not discard wax, labels or wicks down the sink drain or garbage disposal. Dispose in the trash.

    Directions:

    1. Pre-heat the oven to 180 degrees baking temperature. Do not use broiler.

    2. Line a sheet tray with aluminum foil. Make sure to use enough foil to cover the top and edges of the tray with enough around the edges to fold up and capture the wax.

    3. Scrape out as much wax as you can from the candle container with a spoon or butter knife, being carful not to scratch the container. Discard the wax removed from the jars in the trash.

    4. Place the candle container upside down on the pan and set the pan in the oven.

    5. Set a timer for 15 minutes, the wax should melt in that amount of time.

    6. Do not leave too long in the oven as the container may crack from the heat.

    7. Remove the pan and place on a heat-safe surface.

    8. The candle containers will be hot. Hold the container using a towel or pot holder and lift off the tray. Note that the remaining wax and wicks should be on the tray under the container.

    9. Wipe the inside and edges of the container with a paper towel and discard the paper towel.

    10. After the container has cooled, hand wash with soap and water.

    11. After the excess wax and wicks on the aluminum foil cools, discard foil.

    Use a Freezer

Cold causes wax to harden and shrink, making it easier to remove. If you are uncomfortable handing hot containers this is an alternative method.

    1. Make sure you candle is fully cooled and hasn’t been burned in 8 hours.

    2. Place the candle container in the freezer for several hours or until it is frozen. We recommend overnight.

    3. The wax should pop right out of the container, but you can also loosen it with a spoon or butter knife necessary. Be carful not to scratch the container.

    4. Wipe the inside and edges of the container with a paper towel and discard the paper towel.

    5. Clean the container by hand washing with soap and water.

Please contact me if you don’t have an oven or freezer for cleaning instructions.
